Obituary

Jorge A. Segovia, more commonly known to many as "El Zapaton," passed away on May 12, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on July 11, 1961, in Crystal City, Texas, to Jose Segovia and Maria De La Luz Segovia. Jorge’s life was deeply intertwined with the community that shaped him and in turn, was shaped by his unwavering spirit and support.

Jorge was a man of admirable grit and diligent hands, a true jack of all trades, as his daughter fondly remembers him. His willingness to work tirelessly and do whatever it took to earn an honest dollar was matched only by his generous heart. Always ready to lend a helping hand, Jorge was a pillar of the Crystal City community, a staple whose absence will leave a profound void. His helpfulness and kindness touched the lives of countless friends and neighbors, embodying the very essence of community spirit.

Perhaps one of Jorge’s most cherished roles was that of being the biggest Crystal City Javelina Football fan. His infectious enthusiasm filled stadiums with life and momentum for the young athletes. During this year’s football season and those that will come, his infamous his voice and chant of "Mochale los pies!" will be dearly missed. This spirited yell, along with his role in starting the cheers that ignited the crowd’s energy alongside the cheerleaders, forged memories that will forever echo in the hearts of players, students, and community members alike.

Jorge’s legacy is cherished by his loving family who survive him: his sons Jorge (Jaimie) Segovia Jr. and Luis Segovia; his daughter Rose M. Segovia; his brothers Humberto, Arturo, and Juan Segovia; and his beloved granddaughter, Selena. Though he has left us, the imprint of his love, strength, and vitality remains with them and all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Segovia; his mother, Maria De La Luz Cantu; and his brothers Oscar and Luiz Segovia. Their memories, closely held, now join the tapestry of Jorge’s life story.

As Crystal City mourns the loss of one of its most cherished sons, the community remembers "El Zapaton" not just for the man he was but for the light he brought to every corner of his world. His presence, loud and proud, in the stands and neighborhoods of Crystal City will forever be treasured. Jorge A. Segovia’s memory will live on, vibrant and enduring, in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
