With deep sadness and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Jose De Jesus "El Wero Mosos" Vega Ocampo, who entered into eternal rest on July 2, 2026. Born on March 18, 1943, in Allende, Coahuila, Mexico, Jose’s warmth, laughter, and unyielding kindness left indelible marks on all who were privileged to know him.
Jose’s journey led him from his beloved birthplace in Mexico to becoming an integral part of the Crystal City community in Texas. Guided by a steadfast work ethic and a love for his family, he devoted many years of his life to his work at the Del Monte Factory in Crystal City, where he ultimately retired. His colleagues remember him not just for his dedication, but for the jovial spirit and bright smile he brought each day.
Outside his profession, Jose was a man of many talents and passions. Crystal City and beyond recognized his distinctive voice as a revered baseball game announcer. On the airwaves at KHER, he connected people with his radio hosting. Offering not only entertainment, but a sense of togetherness and local pride. His enthusiasm and humor transcended the microphone, bringing countless smiles and forging lasting bonds throughout the community. Those closest to him knew Jose as a man with a big heart, a jokester and a friend to everyone he encountered. He took great joy in recounting stories of days spent with his best friend, Betin, especially their time together at the tire shop.Taking trips in the summer to South Padre Island making beautiful memories with those he loved and always making sure to make a stop at the Basilica Of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle - National Shrine to give thanks for his many blessings. Jose had a deep love for the cumbia music coming from his beloved hometown especially the tunes of Los Hermanos Barron. He would also recall his early days in Allende spending time with them and his good friends Los Arreolas.
As a family man, Jose’s legacy continues through his beloved family. His daughters; Patricia Vega, Carla Rocio (Pedro) Vega-Romero, and Veronica (Jose Luis Jr.) Mendiola, Son; Jose Antonio (Laura) Vega, Grandchildren; Jose Esequiel Vega, Jose Luis Mendiola III, Joe Anthony Vega, Nathan Lee Vega, Jayden Alexander Gonzalez, Jorge Armando Rivera Jr., Valentin Rivera, Esperanza Mere Rivera, and Camilla Dalia Rivera.
Jose rejoins in eternal rest his dearly missed wife, Narcedalia Montalvo Vega of 56 years; his son, Jose De Jesus Vega Ocampo Jr.; and his brothers, Pedro Davalos and Juan Alberto Davalos. Also preceding him in passing are his parents; Antonio Cabral Vega and Priscilla Ocampo Rosales.
Jose will be remembered not only for his roles as a friend, father, husband, and grandfather, but for the joy, laughter, and immense love he readily shared. His warmth, humor, and generous nature will forever echo in every heart he touched.
Though hearts are heavy with loss, the memories of Jose’s laughter, kindness, and vibrant spirit will forever be cherished. He leaves behind a legacy defined by love, generosity, and an infectious sense of humor, a gift to all who were honored to know him.
